Individual Psychotherapy:

Dr. Schwartz engages treatment utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy (CBT).  This approach uses  cognitive-behavioral  and mindfulness interventions, including exposure with response prevention (ERP), cognitive restructuring, relaxation training, social skills training, and stress management. Treatment is individualized for the particular client with home based challenges (“Homework”) which are an essential component of the therapeutic process. Typically people in treatment  have to be willing to commit a total of 15 to 20 minutes per day toward their between session therapeutic process. The exercises are generally based on a graded hierarchy from least to most challenging exposures.

Couples Therapy:

There is a continuing crisis within the marriage partnership with the statistical average of forty per cent of marriages now ending in divorce. At the heart of this conflict are 7 areas that have been identified. CBT works to improve these in Couples Therapy:

  • Communication
  • Empathy (understanding)
  • Intimacy (closeness)
  • Expressed affection
  • Trust
  • Acceptance
  • Forgiveness

Utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral strategies and techniques, couples will identify the role of thoughts and emotions and how they direct behaviors and how they can modify thoughts and behaviors in order to lead a more successful marital life.

Group Therapy:

Weekly groups led by Dr. Schwartz.  Each group lasts an hour and a half and consists of approximately eight to twelve people. Patients will learn state-of-the-art evidence-based strategies and gain support from others coping with similar symptoms. Groups are forming for those suffering from Panic Disorder, OCD, Anxiety and Stress, and Perfectionism. Groups carry a natural means for group members to provide one another with support and guidance related to their own progress. The groups all have a behavioral component to it and generally each week home-based challenges are assigned. The group is a great opportunity for persons to establish relations with others who can appreciate the daily challenges of this potentially disabling condition.
